Meet the Candidates Race for Legislative District 15 pos 1

 

Jack McEntire

Statement:  Our children are the future but the world they inherit is the one we leave them with. For years we’ve had no real choice for our representatives. It’s been the same faces, the same stale ideas. They’ve said: “If the rich get richer, so will the rest of us.” This isn’t reality.

We need to teach our children practical skills. Higher Education, including vocational school, should be based on merit, not on ability to pay. Everyone deserves affordable health care coverage. Science and compromise are equally required. Investing in the future is the best way to change it.
 

Political/Job Experience: I would have to say that my political interest started for me back in High School;  I ran for student body President and served on the Senior Class Council.  More recently I have served as a precinct officer in Selah, as Vice Chair of the Yakima County Democrats, and President of an international chainsaw sculptors guild (the CCSG), I have been a professional sculptor in the Yakima area for 21 years.  I own my own businesses, Cascade Carvings and Sculptures in Stone LLC.  Listed below are some photos of my work.


Education:  My roots run deep here in the valley.  I attended Holy Family and Whitney Elementary, Wilson Junior High, Graduate Eisenhower High, Yakima Valley College, and received a Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Washington.

 


Family: My family came to the Yakima area, Gleed specifically, from Arkansas/Oklahoma during the Great Depression to work in the fields picking fruit.  I started picking at an early age and it was one of the ways I managed to pay for college.  My wife, Amy, and I have been married for 23 years. My wife and I are the proud parents of Amber, (22).
